A Look At Your Site Through the Eyes of a Search Engine

You’ve probably heard it a dozen times before; online, content is king. But why is it so important? Take a look at this keyword cloud of this particular blog:

Online Marketing Tool - Copywriting Keyword Cloud

Just by glancing at this alone, you probably have a pretty good idea of what this site is all about. That’s how search engines work too. Without content, how will a search engine know the primary purpose of your website and which web surfers to display it to in the search engine results page?

Over the years of doing copywriting analysis of websites, I’ve found that many, many websites do not have language on their site that is in line with the keywords they hope to rank for.

Sounds unbelievable, right? It does, but there is a good reason for this. Within the contextual “container” of the site itself, it can be easy not to include high-level keywords because they are already assumed by the general context of the website.

For example, a website that wants to rank for ‘San Diego real estate’ may not ever have the term San Diego real estate on their site. They may have terms likes ‘homes,’ ‘œapartments,’ ‘Del Mar,’ ‘Carlsbad’ (areas within the greater San Diego area), but never once mention the term real estate.

What do search engines think is the primary focus of your website? Use this keyword cloud tool from Webconfs to find out!
