Coming Up on CBG: SEO Podcast Show Every Wednesday
Fred and David have just launched a new program called SEO Podcast Show in which they will share various online and offline marketing and business growth tips and advice. The site will include advice and information related to SEO but will also discuss issues beyond the SEO realm.
Beginning next week, David and Fred will be doing 5 to 10 minute Audios on the go and posting them every Wednesday about various online and offline topics. The approach should be interesting because many of the audios will be recorded as David or Fred is driving (lapel mic and portable MP3 recorder).

How Much is Too Much When it Comes to Advertising?
What really decides consumers to buy or not to buy is the content of your advertising, not its form. -David Ogilvy
Have you ever visited someone’s blog or website and have just been overwhelmed (and not in a good way) by all of the advertisements that they have? While there is no doubt that there is money to be made from advertising businesses and services on one’s website, the question remains: Is there such a thing as too much advertising?
Yes, yes there is.
Why, just the other day, I pulled up a blog that looked interesting (I won’t mention the name of the blog here); but once on the site, I found myself too distracted by all of the advertising boxes that surrounded the content. It made me wonder whether or not there was a more tasteful way to place the ads on the blog so that they wouldn’t be as distracting.
Time to Reinvent
It’s not that difficult to figure out whether or not you’ve got a little too much going on in the way of advertising. If you’re willing to invest the time and effort, try having someone who knows nothing about your site go to it and critique it. The issue of having too many ads on your site ties into the idea of whether or not your blog site is navigable. In most cases, all you have to do is move some things around. For instance, AdSense allows you to have flexibility when it comes down to how the ads look as well as where they are placed on your site. Play around with it to see what works best for you. After all, sometimes the right placement of ads can generate incredible results as ProBlogger, Darren Rowse notes:
The amazing thing about the Adsense advertising system is how one simple change in positioning of your ads can have a profound impact upon the earnings you receive from it.
Get Creative
If you decide to place ads on your site, it’s important to be strategic as well as creative. Keep some of the following things in mind:
- Who is my audience, and will these ads benefit them?
- Are the ads obtrusive?
- Should I consider creating a separate page for affiliates, etc.?
- Should I consult with a web designer about my ad placement?
- Do I have more than 3 or 4 ads on one page? Where else can I put them?
Advertisers constantly invent cures to which there is no disease. -Anon.
