Unique Blog Designs – Congrats Nate!

Blogger and readers Nate Whitehill of Nate Whitehill dot com has just launched a new website: Unique Blog Designs.  His first customer?  One of the biggest names in blogging: John Chow with more than 7,000 readers.

Unique Blog Designs

According to John, Nate approached him with the design idea.  His response:

I told him to do up a rough and if I like what I see, we’ll continue. As you can guess, I liked what I saw.

How many people start a business and try to work their way up to customers like this?  Nate took a different approach and went right for one of the top dogs.  Sure, John could have turned down the design and Nate would have been out the several hours worth of work to put it together.  But instead, Nate’s new website has a permanent link in the footer of one of the most highly trafficked blog on the web.

Smart move Nate!  And contrats on the new site.  It looks fantastic!

Sometimes it pays to offer clients a free service, or in this case a website tailored to John Chow’s preferences; not really knowing the outcome. It’s a gamble, but if you’re successful like Nate and his company, it is well worth the time and effort.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the mention! I have been planning UBD for several weeks now. It is great to have finally launched it alongside John Chow’s site. Thanks again for the mention! :D

Moving to the top players might be a gamble, but you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. All you need is the audacity to approach them and the perseverance to deliver quality. Big thumbs up Nate!

Oh and a little thick skin against turn-downs is nice to have too ;)

Yesterday my site crashed and I had to rebuild it from scratch. A professional would say it shows and it’s still days from being ready but the jump to a professionally designed site is one which has to be contemplated.
