Guest Posting Opportunities

opinionsIn yesterday’s interview, Jordan McCollum talked about how she made a name for herself in the blogosphere by becoming a contributing writer and later assistant editor of Marketing Pilgrim by way of a successful guest post.

In the spirit of guest posting, here is a list of blog that are offering guest posting opportunities:

The very popular SEOMoz (12,000+ readers) offers ongoing opportunities to be featured on the SEOMoz main site.

How it works: You submit a post to the user section of the blog called YouMoz.  Members then give it a thumbs up or thumbs down and add their comments. If the post is popular enough, it moves over to the main SEOMoz blog.

Here’s a chance to really get some notoriety. SEOMoz is hosting a landing page contest for their premium subscription services.

How it works: You create a landing page that will be randomly used in a multi-variate testing environment. The landing page with the most conversions wins! Read Rand Fishkin’s post about the contest and be sure to read Roberta Rosenberg’s review of the current landing page for some ideas.

is looking for people to add new views and areas of expertise about graphic design, freelancing, illustration, adverting, and web design.

Here’s a post on Freelance Switch’s writing and blogging job board for a paid writer who is savvy in the area of money management, investing and career-building.

Guest Blogger is always looking for-you guessed it, guest bloggers! This blog is also a resource for tips about guest blogging and blogging in general.

A different perspective

Some people like Bruce Clay and Mark from 45n5.com don’t think guest blogging is a good idea – what do you think?

Here’s an idea:

Set up a Google Alert with the keyword guest blogger and set it to blogs to be alerted when bloggers are actively seeking guest posts.

Your Perspective:

  • Do you know of any other sites looking for guest bloggers?
  • Have you ever been a guest blogger? What kind of results and opportunities did the experience bring?
  • Have you ever had a guest poster on your blog? How did it turn out?

  1. Hi Christine,

    I need help too :)
We are looking for guest bloggers who can help us out. I hope you don’t mind me posting the link:

    Khalid

  2. Christine says:

Certainly Khalid – thank you for posting the link! To quote your site, you are looking for

“Anything to do with online marketing. Of course, we focus a lot on conversion optimization, web copy, and building online community. But I am hoping to add a new perspectives and new subjects to the blog. So, I am definitely open to suggestions.”

I know we have readers that are very savvy on these topics. Thanks for sharing!

I’m a bit nervous about guest bloggers – I guess it’s just a matter of fully researching the guest and knowing they’ll be in keeping with your usual tone – you don’t want to upset your loyal readers. The biggest challenge as I see it is the blog could lose it’s identity if guests became too varied.

BTW I tagged you today at my blog as part of my tagging game

  4. David says:

    Mark,
    Thanks for the tag.
    David

  5. David says:

Thanks for mentioning my site. It’s new, but using my own experiences, I hope to help others gain what I have out of blogging. I love telling that Darren Rowse story. I never would have become a problogger if it wasn’t for his direct contribution via guest blogging.

  6. Mihaela Lica says:

Interesting how SEOmoz gets more content for its blog. I’ve already made an account, but posted nothing so far. If I am going to blog there I’d like to contribute with something really valuable and not just any crappy entry.
When I look at those entries (on their blog) I feel somehow overwhelmed. These guys know their jobs. How do you bring something new in a world of over-skilled professionals?
I’ve been a guest blogger at Quasi Fictional – answering Dio’s questions for The Fine Art of Blogging series. I was interviewed more then once, featured on some authority blogs too, but I don’t usually “guest blog.” So I cannot share experience.
Yet, from a branding perspective, being a guest blogger is more than a good idea.

  7. Andy says:

For guest blogging, just make sure you have two or three exceptional articles ready to go.

Those guest bloggers on JohnChow.com that wrote more interesting content that what John writes himself influenced me to subscribe to their feeds.

  8. Thanks so much for the link! And for writing about guest posting. It’s such a great way to network in your niche, gain traffic and links, and market your blog.

Love the “you ‘guest’ it” pun :)

As for the Google Alert, i’ll warn folks that what comes up in the results is mostly guest posts that have already been published. But you can also see just how many people are guest blogging. It’s alot more than i ever realized!
