If you are going to blog, do it with integrity:

I usually end Friday with “Who Said That?” but not today. I have something more to say.crime-scene.jpg

I just had someone want some link love which I gave and then revoked after discovering things about his/her blog that I thought were not integrity based: Don’t take this article from May 24th, 2006 Digging Out of Personal Debt, re-title it, use the same copy and have the nerve to say, “If you liked this post…yada, yada” with no indication that you stole someone’s writing from over a year ago. Also, do not use an image of someone’s RSS readership that has over 5,000 readers and pass it off as your own. The image simply links to the correct RSS feed but does not actually display the correct RSS readership for the site.

I’m not mentioning this BLOGS name (yet) and DO NOT plan to provided that this BLOGGER either comes clean or simply doesn’t comment here any longer unless he/she has cleaned up his/her act. Do me a favor… don’t ask for link love if you are a SCAM BLOGGER. Integrity never fails. Scammers always fail at some point.

FYI, we have had 3K unique visitors in the last few days and are well connected in the blogging community. If you don’t want your blog name mentioned here, clean up your act.

Do any of our integrity based readers have something to say about this? I’d love to hear from you.

I agree, it’s disappointing to see things like this happening in the blogsphere. Especially re-using somebody else’s rss image. I haven’t seen that happen, but it obviously does.
About the stealing of content, that’s just really stupid, with the moral and legal issues involved.

GREAT POST!!! I wish every blogger could read this and take it to heart. Do you mind if I copy and paste this article of yours and put it on my blog and change the title up a bit? I’ll be sure not to credit y’all.

Hahaha, I’m just kidding… great post with a great message.

Definitely disappointing to see people copying content. I found a blog where that was happening with someone else’s content a week or so ago and notified the original owner. Don’t start a blog if you don’t have any words of your own to write.

    David,
Yes, this is annoying, but the good news is that bloggers like that won’t last long. The beauty of social media is that people like that get tossed out pretty quick. Thanks for highlighting the topic!

I never heard this kind of cheating before (copying someone RSS readership), but this is definitely unethical. Luckily you did checking your link love in detail

There will probably always be parasites. We just need to be vigilant, as you have been, and create the waves that flush them out of the system.

cheating might work in the short run, but in the long, you’ll always get found out.

    there’s no honor in cheating.

That’s just asking for it, what a fool.

Nice blog you’ve got here, came by from Nate Whitehill’s!

Great post….the Internet is crawling with unethical people these days. Hopefully the more we learn and fight back, the less impact these parasites will have.

I spoke to a guy recently (making a LOT of money online every day) who vehemently justified domain squatting.

I we don’t keep them honest, who will? I say out anyone using techniques like this – they will just make it harder for us (the honest ones) if we let ‘em go.

In case you are subscribed to comments on this thread, the blogger did remove the FAKE RSS read. The blogger has 63 readers not 5K. On a quick SKIM, I didn’t see the copied post any longer either. Hey, maybe, my post and your comments made a difference. David
