A Blogger/Marketer’s Challenge
I know that there are a lot of bloggers out there who love their blogs but are sick of not making money online. I have a feeling that many bloggers go into blogging thinking they’ll do AdSense or paid reviews, but then change their minds once they actually meet their readers and don’t want to disappoint them with junk. Then what? You love your blog, but you need to make money. So let’s talk about making money.
There are lots of business opportunities out there that really can earn you a passive income. Yesterday I mentioned that I have a private label hosting reseller account that continually brings in money. The reason I got into reselling hosting in the first place was that I used to build websites and was continuously referring customers to a hosting company. It just made sense to have my own in this case.
For anyone out there doing web design or building websites, reselling hosting can be a very nice way to generate passive income. A word of caution though… choose a company that offers their OWN customer service! The amount you make reselling hosting is not worth the hassle of dealing with customer service calls at all hours of the day and night.
It’s easy to become a hosting reseller. But because it’s so easy, you can pretty much forget ever getting any organic traffic to your site. Without value added services (such as website building/design/blog setup, etc) it would cost you a lot of money in marketing to get noticed online.
The Challenge
Here’s the challenge… If you only had $200 per month to promote a very competitive product like hosting, how would you do it? People do it every day – perhaps you’re one of them! Hosting services generally include other products such as email marketing tools, domain names, shopping cart software, email, etc. How would you carve out a niche or package up products with value added services? I’ve got some ideas, but I want to see what you think.
I’m hoping that this will generate some ideas that can get you thinking about new ways of earning a passive income with highly competitive resale products such as hosting. Hosting is a business that just about anyone who is savvy with the internet can get into for fairly cheap (around $100) by adding enough value added service. If hosting isn’t your bag, there are lots of other reseller opportunities out there. Resell Rights blog has an entire blog full of ideas. Whatever you sell should be something that you’re passionate about.
Your Ideas
How would you carve out a niche to sell a competitive resale product? What sites have you seen that have done a good job at doing this? Is reselling products or services online a worthwhile business model?

I would use offline methods and target local businesses. Like you said the internet market space will cost you an arm and a leg to advertise. Instead I would hire a kid to research and identify businesses that don’t have a website and send them a letter telling them about their competitors site. You can guess the process from there.
As a blogger I agree that AdSense and Paid Reviews are the current money earner trends. For me an extra $150 a month is nice, but what is the next level.
