I was just reading today an article on SEOMoz about how they've been associated with black hat practices due to the incomplete understanding of some of their posts and presentations. I would say this is another proof SEO is getting a bad connotation, but only for those who don't really know what to look for or for those who have little time to do their homework.

This is a problem with businesses these days, they want everything fast and if it doesn't happen, than what they're doing isn't good, they need something to work faster. SEO, just as SMO, PR and other pieces a business is built on take time to generate great effects. But once you start going up the curve, if you don't screw up big time, the good things coming your way just keep growing :)

A business must realize that underhanded tricks only wreck our Karma and when we build through organic methods that make us and the people we work with feel good, we are successful. The Nazi's were able to take over most of Europe, but it didn't last because it didn't better everyone's life. It was a selfish endeavor that was doomed to fail.

We must build our business with customers, other companies, and ourselves in mind, expanding our awareness to everything involved instead of a singular focus.
