Make a Committment To Take a Risk

FreedomI want to commend Josh Mullineaux for his post titled My New Marketing Experiment where he and Nate Whitehill video blog about venturing into new territory – video blogging.  I enjoyed the video very much and like the fact that they are committed to trying new things.

A previous boss of mine encouraged everyone in the company to consistently take risks by stepping outside of their comfort zone.  He understood that this meant there would be failures.  He would say that if you took two steps outside of your zone of comfort and were knocked back one, you would still be one step closer to finding success.

Perhaps the biggest mistake any business owner could make is to never try new things.  It can be difficult to take risks – especially when you’ve found a nice place of satisfactory comfort.

Have you recently taken a risk?  If so, what was it and what were the results?  There’s no better time than the present to try something new.  How about making a committment today to take a risk in your business or personal life?  What are your ideas?

Very Timely post Christine! I am currently considering what most would think is a big risk. Although after running the #’s I think is a good calculated risk to take. It’s a business idea that is different and that no one has done that I know of. I will let you know how it goes. And it may just end up a great story for CBG!

Hey Christine, thanks for the mention. You make some good points. More risks = more chances at success.

Moving outside of your comfort zone and taking risks needn’t be the same thing in my opinion. They have in common that you might get uncomfortable though. I feel that when taking a risk there should be a chance of a negative outcome, a loss. If the only risk is the absence of a reward, than I personally feel that it’s not really a risk.

Next month I’m setting myself the challenge to change from a night owl into an early bird. There’s no risk involved, I can’t be worse off if this will not work, there’s just no reward. But it’s definitely outside of my comfort zone :)

I think I am the queen of risks! Since I am a big risk taker, there are current 3 large risks I am taking right now.. all of them having to do with business. I say, go big or go home! *=)

Most definitely, a good risk has a chance of a negative outcome. Good luck with your change to getting up early! I’ve gotten in the habit of getting up REALLY early (3 or 4 am) and it’s kind of like being up late at night in the sense that it’s peaceful several hours, but you don’t have to miss out on the day. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out!

I love you spunk Terra! Go big or go home – that’s GREAT! You’ll have to blog about how these risks turned out… :D
