When Stephen R. Covey died, a great business leader died with him. Some leaders, like Covey, have shaped today’s business world. They are influential, innovative thinkers, customer focused, and truly desire to help those less fortunate than them. So besides Covey, who are some of the great business leaders that are still working now?
- Amazon’s Jeff Bezos
Jeff Bezos truly pioneered the world of online commerce. It is thanks to him that the internet is shaped the way it is today. The concept of ‘predictive analysis’ is Bezos’ brainchild. Whenever you see product recommendations, based on your buying history and search history, you have been exposed to Bezos’ ideas. Not everybody likes this concept, but everybody agrees that it has shaped our world.
- Xerox’ Anne Mulcahy
Anne proved her worth when Xerox was about to go down. She didn’t have the role of CEO in mind for herself, but she saw an opportunity to lead the Xerox board and she took it. This happened in 2001. Since then, she had to cut 30% of the workforce, and she also had to get rid of Xerox’ entire desktop portion. However, she held on strong and this earned here the ‘CEO of the Year’ award by Chief Executive Magazine in 2008. Plus, she was named one of the greatest leaders in this country by the U.S. News & World Report. She has also twice been acknowledged as one of the most influential women on earth by Forbes in 2005 and again in 2009.
- Infor’s Charles Phillips
Charles Phillips, Infor CEO, has held many different positions. The number of influential positions he has held and continues to hold is literally too long to list. He took Oracle to where it is today, and is now repeating that process, very successfully, with Infor as well. Infor is ambitious and taking over the world, with Phillips already making 35 acquisitions. And he uses his power for good, starting a philanthropic organization with his wife, Karen Phillips.
- Starbucks’ Howard Schultz
Schultz grew up in the Bronx and went to university on an athletic scholarship. He beat the odds and ended up heading Starbucks, a global organization. He is the embodiment of the American dream, achieving it through hard work and a lot of courage. But he is so humble despite all these successes. He wants to help others to become equally successful, and he often invests in other businesses, including eBay.
- Google’s Larry Page
Last but not least, there is Larry Page. He is one of those business people that can face any kind of challenge and come up with a solution. Google is constantly criticized for every decision they make, while they receive a huge amount of praise when they go ahead with their decisions anyway and end up being hugely successful. Larry knows what he wants and how he wants to get there, and he literally doesn’t seem to care about criticisms. And, to date, he has always been right.
