The Strangest Thing I Have Ever Manifested with the Law Of Attraction

law of attractionA lot of people are talking about the law of attraction now that the book The Secret has become such a big success. Do you believe in the law of attraction? Some people live by this law, others think its BS.

I’m not a law of attraction, cultist, I am a big believer that you can attract things into your life. It’s not a science, and it doesn’t work if you don’t feel deep down that you deserve these things, but it does work! Perhaps like you, I started noticing this phenomenon many years before I realized there was something called the law of attraction, and I am amazed at how it works.

Coincidence, or the law of attraction at work?

Though 3,000 miles apart, David and I met when I sent him an email to let him know about my copywriting services at the exact moment that he was online searching for copywriters for some of his clients. Was this a coincidence, or the law of attraction at work?

Over the years I feel that I’ve brought quite a few things into my life with the law of attraction but the strangest set of things of all was a 1971 Volkswagen pop-top bus and a tool set.

Back when I was hitchhiking across the country and free as a bird, I had a little notebook that I used to write down observations. Though I was living in a tent and had pretty much nothing, something I really, really did want at the time was a 1971 Volkswagen pop-top bus and a tool set. I wanted it so bad that I made a page of things that I wanted in the notebook and wrote just those two things on the page.

A few months later, my then boyfriend at the time and I traveled up to Oregon to visit his estranged father that he had not seen in years. Though he had been a mechanic, his father was managing some apartments and had started a new family. Ironically, one of the tenants that had recently moved out had just given his father his non-working 1971 Volkswagen pop-top bus in exchange for a rent debt.

Glad to see his son and knowing that we needed a vehicle, he offered to fix up the bus and give it to us! In a week or so, he had it running like a champ and had even spray painted the engine a bright funky yellow and gave us a brand new tool box to go with it!

Hocus Pocus, or The Real Deal?

Is the law of attraction real or just a series of coincidences? Do you feel as if you’ve ever manifested anything into your life with the Law of Attraction? What are its boundaries?

interesting topic. i, personally, am not a fan of the secret or all of the hoopla surrounding it. i think sometimes people need something to make them feel like they have a purpose and right now, it’s the secret. now, i do believe in you get what you give, but not necessarily all of the time or literally. in the big picture of things, i like the idea that you earn what you get. it’s comforting. i think if you want something badly enough, you do things to make it happen and you might not necessarily realize all of the aspects of the situation that you personally touched to achieve it. then, it seems like you got something mostly because you wanted it so badly and not so much because your hard work got it for you. however, your story…that’s just a great coincidence! i don’t know how you did that. :)

  2. Christine says:

I’m not sure how I did that either! I doubt that the universe was transpiring to give me a 1971 VW bus and a tool set while allowing children in other countries to starve who probably wanted food more than I wanted a Volkswagen!

It is interesting… I do believe in the law of attraction in that what we think about, we bring into our lives – not because of something magical, but like you said, because we set things in motion to bring them into our lives :D

  3. I think you guys nailed some of my thoughts. There is reality to the fact that is you want something to happen you both subconsciously and consciously will do things that put you in situations that have greater chance of receiving the blessings. In my view though, this is by no means a ‘law’, but rather a motivation method to get people moving.

The other reasons it tends to fail my sincerity meter is because of the starving children in Africa or the other tragic situations. The supposed law is not universal, and there are plenty of things in this world that are out of our control.

Also if we carry out the law to an extreme, and everyone in Africa believes earnestly that the law will provide a mansion and a car and a beautiful family, what would happen then? When only 10,000 make, what do we say to millions of others.

  4. Lori Saitz says:

When you attract something into your life, it is not at the expense of someone else. Your gain does not cause the children in Africa to go hungry. There is an abundance of everything in the universe. There is enough to feed the entire world. The challenge is overcoming the beliefs about scarcity. At the risk of sounding like I am paranoid (which I am not), look at the forces that are stopping the delivery of food and clean water and medical supplies to those around the world that need. At the same time, look at people, like Mark Victor Hansen, who are doing something about overcoming those obstacles.

  5. Fred says:

I like the concept behind the Secret and feel that there are things that you will never get if you don’t ask for or concentrate on their attainment.

If Jack Canfield had never focused on making $100,000 a year he would more than likely never have come up with the idea to sell his book.

But, I don’t know if it is an external force or an internal force that brought it about. It might just be that we are our own genies.

  6. Christine says:

These are questions that I have struggled with as well… there are a lot of things in the world that are out of control. On the other hand, like Lori says, there may be enough abundance in the world to handle some of these needs – but that it’s just a matter of directing them the right way. For example, I know that we have plenty of extra food and resources – why is more of it not going to people that need it?

Moving away from the children in need topic, I also see people in my life that “want” better things for themselves, but their actions contradict their wants. I think it’s a bit of what Fred said – that perhaps we are our own genies. The “law” of attraction doesn’t seem to work if you just say you want something but are not living a life conducive of achieving it.

    Excellent points Happy Rock!

  7. Christine says:

That’s a great point Lori… maybe scarcity is more of an unfounded belief to a point than it is a “fact.” I like what you say about Mark Victor Hansen… part of being open to the law of attraction is not just hoping you get what you want (attracting), but also being the solution that other attract. There are many ways that we can do this on a small level. For example, really listening to others that have problems and searching our own resources for solutions.

I like what you say about thinking of the reasons why delivery of food and clean water and medical supplies isn’t happening. All of us could do something about this – there are plenty of organizations that will help.

I have donated to Feed the Children and Kiva, a company that provides microloans for entrepreneurs in underdeveloped countries – not because I wanted to attract something from it, but because I felt strongly compelled to support these organizations. I haven’t donated very much and I should do more. Even financial gurus like Suze Orman say that if you want to attract wealth, you must give it away. She recommends giving quite a bit to charities for that reason. Perhaps this is the “law” of attraction in full circle. Just waiting around for something to come your way is only a fraction of the big picture. In order for it to work both ways, perhaps we need to open our minds more to helping others when we can.

  8. Christine says:

I love this part about us being our own genies… that is a great way of putting it. I think this is a big part, but I think there may be a little more too. At the risk of sounding like a complete hippie, I really do believe that our thoughts a have a frequency – like a radio wave. You can’t see them, but they are there. If others are tuned in, it is possible that things could come together for “unexplainable” reasons.

  9. I do respect and appreciate the emphasis that ‘The Secret’ puts on things like gratitude and giving back and helping other reach their dreams, although I am not sure that most people are that altruistic about their motives when coming on board with the secret. But I guess the Secret would say the the law wouldn’t attract things for them, and they would just give up.

  10. Christine says:

So true – most people will probably just wait around for things to happen without contributing anything in return.
The popularity of ‘The Secret’ and the fact that it’s not a secret anymore that people have discovered, but something on an endcap at Walmart for $16.88, will likely generate a lot of misuse and misunderstanding. As you mention, I can see a lot of people thinking that all they have to do is just sit back and wait for things to happen to them and when they don’t happen, just giving up.

I’m not sure what it’s all about. Like you, I’m not ready to call it a “law.” But I do think there is something to it. I think we’ve all seen the essence of the the “secret” in our own lives, but there is probably much more to it than can be put into a 198 page book.

I love that it’s getting people (myself included) thinking this way and generating discussion like this… That in an of itself is pretty powerful!

How one meets failure or any unfavourable situation?
By some satisfactory idea. Mind rejects, adjusts with failure or any unfavourable situation by complaining, blaming others, feeling guilty, blaming fate, I will be successful in future and so on.

How one meets success or any favourable situation?
By some satisfactory idea. Mind jumps to take credit, to give credit to others, to eulogise hard work, to hope for further success, to thank gods, to ascribe it to fate, karma and so on.

To question (see) the compulsion to respond to failure or success by some satisfactory idea is the concentration of total energy. It is an invitation to the ‘wholeness’ to operate.

  12. Hi, great site.
Personally, I completely believe in the Law of Attraction. When you become aware of it you can really see it all around you.
I also think that CHOOSING to believe in it, for the cynics, will still do you a hell of a lot of good. If it DOES exist, then you will be using it in your favor. But if not, then you will certainly become a far more positive person by trying all the time to concentrate on what is good for you, and what you want out of life.

  13. The Old Vic says:

Personally, I find it very hard to believe in. You wanted a Vokswagen and lo and behold a Vokswagen turns up. But how many people also wanted a Vokswagen but the Volkswagen never turned up. They don’t generally write about the stuff they wanted and didn’t get because it is of no interest to anybody, but people who do get what they wanted write about it and all of a sudden it becomes a ‘law’. So I’m sceptcal, but of course I don’t see how it can be proved one way or the other.
