When I first decided to ditch the cubicle and start my own business it was tough – very tough. There were many meals of Ramen Noodles and nights of entertainment that consisted of 99 cent movie rentals. I was terrified about how I would pay the rent and make ends meet. But by reading advice from people who have become self-made and implementing their ideas, I learned how to do it too.
The best part is that I did this all with minimal investments. Like many entrepreneurs and business owners, I didn’t have the luxury of dumping gobs of cash into advertising and marketing. Instead, I learned how to leverage the internet to make important connections with the right people – and you can too.
That is exactly the focus of this blog. We exist to help the small business owner learn from what we’ve learned about online and offline marketing techniques that really do work.

Christine,
Good post and good advice! There is a lot of business being done on the internet without either party having ever met face-to-face. The substitute for that “gut check” reassurance that you get from sitting across the table from one another is long-term consistency and credibility. If you read someone’s blog (or see their comments) for several months — you are going to have a pretty good sense of what they are all about.
And, as you suggest, by reaching out and participating in some established experts’ communities — not only do you earn their awareness and trust but also all of their readers.
There are lots of ways to market yourself. You’ve hit on some pretty potent ones in this post!
